Italy: Inflation hits highest level since May 2019 in March
Consumer prices rose 0.29% in March over the previous month, picking up from the 0.10% increase recorded in February. The reading was largely driven by rising prices for transportation as well as for housing and utilities. Inflation rose to 0.8% in March, from February’s 0.6%. March’s figure marked the highest inflation rate since May 2019. The annual average variation of consumer prices came in at minus 0.1% in March (February: -0.1%). Lastly, core inflation fell to 0.8% from February’s 0.9%, while harmonized inflation dropped to 0.6% (February: 1.0%).
