Italy: Inflation inches up in April
Consumer prices rose 0.2% month-on-month in April, following March’s 0.3% increase, according to revised data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 16 May. The figure reflected higher prices for transport, services related to recreation, and non-regulated energy products, which more than offset lower prices for regulated energy products, and unprocessed food. Meanwhile, inflation came in at 1.1% in April, up from March’s 1.0%.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, jumped 0.6% from the previous month in April, following March’s 0.3% increase. Meanwhile, core inflation rose from March’s 0.4% to 0.6%, while harmonized inflation inched up to 1.2% from March’s 1.1%.
