Italy: Inflation inches down in February
Consumer prices dipped a revised 0.1% month-on-month in February (previously reported: 0.0% month-on-month), contrasting January’s 0.1% uptick, according to revised data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 16 March. The figure mainly reflected lower prices for non-regulated energy products and for services related to transport, which offset higher prices for unprocessed food. Meanwhile, inflation came in at a revised 0.3% in February (previously reported: 0.4%), down from January’s 0.5%.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, declined 0.1% from the previous month in February, swinging from the 0.2% rise recorded in January. Meanwhile, core inflation inched down from January’s 0.8% to 0.7%, while harmonized inflation ticked down from 0.4% in January to 0.2% in February.
