Italy: Inflation picks up in November
Consumer prices remained unchanged month-on-month in November, following October’s 0.1% dip, according to provisional data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 29 November. The figure reflected lower prices for services related to transport and recreation—influenced by seasonal factors—offsetting higher prices for food, alcohol and non-durable goods. Meanwhile, inflation ticked up from 0.2% in October to 0.4% in November.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, dropped 0.1% from the previous month in November, a softer fall than October’s 0.3% decrease. Meanwhile, core inflation edged up from October’s 0.7% to 1.0%, the highest reading in over two years, while harmonized inflation accelerated from 0.2% in October to 0.4%.
