Japan: Consumer confidence rises in December
Consumer confidence came in at 30.3 in December, up from November’s 28.6. Consequently, the index remained entrenched below the 50-threshold, indicating pessimism among consumers.
The headline print reflected improvements in all subcomponents of the consumer confidence index. Consumers became less pessimistic about the next 12 months concerning their overall livelihoods, income growth, employment and willingness to buy durable goods.
