Japan: Consumer confidence rises in November
Consumer confidence came in at 36.1 in November, up from October’s 35.7. Despite the uptick, the index remained entrenched below the 50-threshold, separating pessimism from optimism among consumers.
Consumers became less pessimistic about the next year regarding their overall livelihoods, employment and willingness to buy durable goods, driving a slight improvement in the index. However, consumers became more pessimistic about their income growth prospects.
Despite the uptick, consumer confidence in Q4 so far remains below the Q3 average, boding poorly for private spending in the last quarter of the year.
