Japan: Consumer sentiment deteriorates in April
The consumer confidence survey came in at 34.7 in April, down from the 36.1 clocked in March. As a result, the index moved further below the 50-threshold, indicating continued pessimism among consumers.
The overall deterioration reflected a broad-based fall in sentiment: Consumers became more pessimistic regarding overall livelihood, income growth and employment opportunities in the coming six months while willingness to buy durable goods also reduced in April compared with the prior month’s survey.
