Japan: Consumer sentiment rises to over one-year high in June
Consumer sentiment came in at 36.2 in June, marginally up from May’s 36.0. June’s result was the strongest since January 2022. Despite the uptick, the index remained entrenched below the 50-threshold, pointing to improving, albeit still negative sentiment among consumers.
Consumers became less pessimistic about the next year regarding their income and employment, driving the slight improvement in the index. Consumers’ views regarding their overall livelihood in the next year remained unchanged, and that regarding their willingness to buy durable goods fell slightly.
