Japan: Industrial output declines less in August
Industrial output declined 0.7% in month-on-month seasonally adjusted terms in August, which followed July’s 1.8% decrease. The figure was largely driven by a weaker contraction in manufacturing output.
On an annual basis, factory output dropped 4.4% in August, which was below July’s 2.3% fall and marked the worst result since April 2022. Moreover, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at zero, down from July’s 0.8%.
