Japan: Core inflation falls to three-month low in January
Core consumer prices—which exclude fresh food—were unchanged from the previous month in January, coming in below December’s 0.10% rise. January’s result marked the weakest reading in three months.
Core consumer prices inflation inched down to 0.3% in annual terms in January, moderately below December’s 0.4% print. January’s figure marked the lowest inflation rate since October 2021. Nevertheless, the trend pointed up slightly, with the annual average variation of core consumer prices coming in at minus 0.1% in January (December: -0.2%). Lastly, consumer price inflation fell to 0.5% in January, from December’s 0.8%.
