Kazakhstan: Industrial production growth drops slightly in April
Annual growth in industrial production edged down to 4.5% in April, following an expansion of 4.7% in March.
A breakdown of the sub-sectors shows that the downturn was due to a slowdown in the manufacturing sector and a contraction in the water supply, sewerage system and waste management sector. The weaker rate of growth of manufacturing output in April compared to the previous month was mainly due to a contraction in light industry. Meanwhile, the mining and quarrying sector expanded in April at broadly the same stride as the previous month. On the other hand, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector accelerated markedly, thanks to a notable surge in transmission and distribution.
Annual average growth in industrial production dropped down from 7.1% in March to 6.5% in April.
