Kazakhstan: Industrial production growth sees a sharp slowdown in August
August saw a sharp slowdown in industrial production growth. The industrial sector expanded a weaker 1.9% year-on-year in August, following a 4.4% annual expansion in July.
A breakdown of the sub-sectors shows that the downturn was driven by a notable drop in the pace of expansion of mining output and a swing to contraction in the supply of electricity, gas and steam. On the upside, the manufacturing sector accelerated slightly and the water supply, sewerage system and waste management sector rebounded.
Annual average growth in industrial production fell to 4.6% in August, from 5.7% in July.
