Kazakhstan: Industrial production growth moderates slightly in January
Industrial output rose 5.2% over the same month of the previous year in January. The pace of expansion moderated slightly from the 5.4% year-on-year growth recorded in December.
The manufacturing and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sub-sectors picked up in January. Manufacturing output grew 6.2% year-on-year (December: +4.4% year-on-year) and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply increased 6.4% year-on-year (December: +4.1% yoy) in the previous month. Conversely, the mining and quarrying sub-sector lost steam. Output in the sector rose at a more moderate annual rate of 4.5% (December: +6.5% year-on-year). Moreover, the water supply, sewerage system and waste management sector contracted 3.4% year-on-year in January, contrasting a 0.2% annual expansion in December.
Annual average growth in industrial production in January mirrored December’s 7.2%—the highest reading since June 2011.
