Kenya: Inflation recedes again in December
Inflation moderated for a second consecutive month in December, easing to 9.1% from Novembers 9.5%. Looking at the details of the release, the moderation was chiefly due to prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rising at a slower rate, which more than offset prices for transportation increasing at a stronger rate.
Still, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation rising to 7.7% in December, up from Novembers 7.4%. The result marked the highest reading since January 2018.
Finally, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.53% from the previous month in December, coming in above the prior months 0.35% increase.
