Kenya: Inflation falls to over one-year low in December
Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.91% from the previous month in December, accelerating from November’s 0.45% rise. December’s figure was the highest reading in a year. The increase was largely driven by rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for housing, utilities and fuel increased at a faster rate.
Inflation dropped to 5.7% in December, edging down from November’s 5.8%. December’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since September 2020. In addition, the trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 6.2% in December (November: 6.4%).
