Kenya: Inflation falls to over one-year low in January
Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.31% in January over the previous month, moderating from the 0.91% rise logged in December. January’s result marked the weakest reading since August 2021. Looking at the details of the release, price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages cooled, while prices for transportation as well as for housing, utilities and fuel dropped in January.
Meanwhile, inflation eased to 5.4% in January, easing slightly from December’s 5.7%. January’s figure marked the lowest inflation rate since August 2020. Accordingly annual average inflation fell to 6.1% in January (December: 6.2%).
