Kenya: Inflation steady in January
Consumer prices rose 0.31% over the previous month in January, down from December’s 0.90% rise, which had marked the fastest rise since April 2019. January’s reading largely reflected notable increases in prices for education and for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics.
Inflation came in at 5.8% in January, matching December’s print. Thus, inflation remained above the midpoint of the Central Bank’s 2.5%–7.5% target range. Lastly, annual average inflation rose to 5.3%, up from December’s 5.2%.
