Korea: Consumer confidence records worst reading since August 2021 but remains in positive territory in May
Consumer confidence fell to 102.6 in May from April’s 103.8. May’s result marked the weakest sentiment since August 2021. As a result, the index remained above the 100-threshold, suggesting consumers remained optimistic despite the deterioration in sentiment.
The headline print largely reflected a deterioration in sentiment regarding future living standards. In contrast, consumers’ assessments of their prospective employment opportunities sector improved.
