Korea: Consumer confidence rises to over one-year high in April
Consumer confidence came in at 102.2 in April, up from March’s 100.5. April’s result marked the best performance since January 2020. Consequently, the index moved further above the 100-point threshold, suggesting increased optimism among consumers.
Households’ views on their current living standards improved, albeit still remained somewhat pessimistic. However, in contrast with March, households’ expectations on future spending and interest rates became slightly less positive.
Looking ahead, consumer sentiment could be capped by lingering restrictions, persistent Covid-19 daily cases and a slower-than-expected vaccine rollout.
