Latvia: Inflation falls in April
Consumer prices increased just 0.2% from the previous month in April, following a much stronger 1.2% month-on-month jump in March. According to Latvia’s Central Statistical Bureau, prices for just 6 of the 12 components of the index rose over the previous month. Higher prices for clothing and footwear, and household furnishings led the overall increase, but were nearly offset by decreases in the prices for transport, food products, alcohol and tobacco, and miscellaneous goods.
Inflation came down from a four-month high of 2.2% in March to 2.0% in April. In turn, average annual inflation dropped for a fourth consecutive month from March’s 2.6% to 2.5% in April.
Harmonized consumer prices rose 0.3% month-on-month in April, down from the previous month’s 1.3% increase. Meanwhile, Harmonized inflation came in at 2.1% in April, down from 2.3% in March. Lastly, average Harmonized inflation ticked down to 2.5% from 2.6% in March, marking the fourth consecutive monthly easing.
