Lithuania: Inflation comes in at highest level since September 1996 in May

Consumer prices increased 2.34% from the previous month in May, picking up from the 1.90% increase seen in April. Looking at the details of the release, prices for housing and utilities, as well as transportation, rose at a quicker pace in May compared to the previous month..

Inflation rose to 18.9% in May, above April’s 16.8%. May’s reading was the highest inflation rate since September 1996. Annual average inflation rose to 10.5% in May (April: 9.2%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 18.5% in May, from April’s 16.6%.
