Malaysia: Industrial output records lowest expansion since May in October
Industrial output grew 4.6% in year-on-year terms in October, which was a deterioration from September’s 10.8% increase. The outturn marked the worst reading since May. The notable slowdown was partly due to a deterioration in manufacturing production growth. In addition, mining and quarrying production lost steam.
On a monthly basis, industrial production decreased 3.7% in seasonally adjusted terms in October, contrasting Septembers 0.7% expansion. Meanwhile, annual average industrial production growth fell to 7.5% in October (September: +7.6%), signaling a worsening trend in the industrial sector.
