Malaysia: Inflation drops to lowest level in a year in May
Inflation eased to 2.8% in May, following April’s 3.3%. May’s reading marked the lowest inflation rate since May 2022. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose at a softer pace in May, while prices for housing and utilities were mostly steady from the previous month’s reading.
The trend was unchanged, with annual average inflation coming in at April’s 3.8% in May.
Lastly, consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.15% in May over the previous month, accelerating from April’s 0.08% increase.
