Malaysia: Inflation drops to lowest level since March 2021 in September
Inflation edged down to 1.9% in September, which followed August’s 2.0%. September’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since March 2021. Looking at the details of the release, transportation prices fell in September compared to the previous month, and price pressures for food inched down. Moreover, prices for recreation services and culture grew at a more subdued pace.
In addition, the trend pointed down slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.1% in September (August: 3.3%).
Finally, consumer prices increased a seasonally adjusted 0.08% over the previous month in September, moderating from the 0.15% rise recorded in August. September’s result marked the weakest reading since August 2021.
