Malaysia: Inflation holds stable in August
Inflation held steady at July’s 2.0% in August. August’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since August 2021. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose at a more moderate rate in August. Meanwhile, prices for housing and utilities picked up slightly from the previous month’s reading.
The trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.3% in August (July: 3.5%).
Lastly, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.23% in August over the previous month, picking up from the 0.08% increase seen in July. August’s result was the highest reading since February.
