Malaysia: Inflation drops to lowest level since March in July
Consumer prices fell 0.57% in July over the previous month, swinging from the 0.08% rise logged in June. July’s result marked the sharpest fall in prices since April 2020. Looking at the details of the press release, the downturn was chiefly driven by falling prices for household and utilities which more than offset rising prices for transportation.
Inflation dropped to 2.2% in July below June’s 3.4%. July’s reading represented the lowest inflation rate since March. Meanwhile, annual average inflation rose to 0.7% in July (June: 0.4%).
