Malaysia: Inflation eases in September
Consumer prices were unchanged over the prior month in September, following August’s 0.3% increase. The reading was driven by lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages and health offsetting higher prices for recreation and culture and education.
Inflation decelerated to 1.1% in September from 1.5% in August, dragged down by a sharp drop in transport costs. Going forward, price pressures should increase slightly due to the weakening of the ringgit so far this year, the Bank’s recent monetary easing and robust domestic demand.
