Malaysia: Inflation increases in April
Consumer prices increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.24% over the previous month in April, moderating from the 0.32% increase recorded in March. April’s result marked the weakest reading since August 2021. Looking at the details of the release, the change in the prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a faster rate in April, although prices for housing and utilities were steady were broadly stablefrom the previous month’s reading. prices for transport and housing moderated from the previous month.
Inflation inched up to 2.3% in April from March’s 2.2%. Lastly, aAnnual average inflation edged down to 2.7% in April (March: 2.9%).
