Malaysia: Inflation stable in March
Consumer prices fell 1.2% over the prior month in March, down from February’s flat reading. Plunging transport prices, and lower prices for housing and utilities, and food and non-alcoholic beverages underpinned the decline. March’s drop was the sharpest month-on-month fall in consumer prices in nearly a year.
Inflation was stable at 1.3% in March. Meanwhile, annual average inflation was also steady at 1.0% in the month. Going forward, price pressures will likely remain subdued due to ultra-low oil prices and falling aggregate demand.
