Malaysia: Inflation ticks down in July
Consumer prices picked up 0.1% month-on-month in July, slightly higher than June’s stable reading, driven by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport.
In year-on-year terms, consumer prices increased 1.4% in July, marginally lower than June’s 1.5% jump and short of market analysts’ expectations of 1.5%. Going forward, price pressures should increase slightly due to a weaker ringgit, the Bank’s recent monetary easing and robust domestic demand.
