Malaysia: Merchandise exports drop in March
Merchandise exports decreased 6.1% in annual terms in March, on the heels of February’s 9.1% fall. Meanwhile, merchandise imports expanded 6.5% on an annual basis in March (February: -1.1% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 2.7 billion surplus in March (February 2024: USD 2.4 billion surplus; March 2023: USD 6.0 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 39.7 billion surplus in March, compared to the USD 42.9 billion surplus in February.
