Malaysia: Merchandise exports gain steam in November
Merchandise exports increased 4.8% year on year in November, on the heels of Octobers 2.0% increase. Meanwhile, merchandise imports expanded 4.8% on an annual basis in November (October: +14.6% yoy), marking the weakest reading since January 2021.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 4.8 billion surplus in November (October 2022: USD 3.9 billion surplus; November 2021: USD 4.6 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 59.4 billion surplus in November, compared to the USD 59.2 billion surplus in October.
