Malaysia: Merchandise exports increase in February
Merchandise exports increased 5.3% annually in February, following January’s 1.6% drop. Meanwhile, merchandise imports rose 7.8% on an annual basis in February (January: -1.0% yoy).
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 4.5 billion surplus in February (January 2023: USD 4.2 billion surplus; February 2022: USD 4.7 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend weakened marginally, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 57.7 billion surplus in February, compared to the USD 58.0 billion surplus in January.
