Mexico: Consumer sentiment weakens in October
Consumer confidence fell in October, with the seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence indicator published by the Statistical Institute (INEGI) coming in at 43.9 points, down from 44.8 points in the previous month. Starting August 2019, INEGI reports the indicator as a balance rather than as an index.
October’s downturn was mainly driven by households’ weaker assessment over their financial situation and the general economic situation in the year ahead. Consumers’ views regarding their current financial situation and the current state of the economy also deteriorated, albeit mildly. Meanwhile, their appraisal on the ability to purchase big-ticket items remained unchanged.
