Mexico: Inflation rises again in August
Consumer prices rose 0.39% in August over the previous month, which was below the 0.66% increase logged in July. August’s slowdown largely reflects a softer rise in prices for transport, while food and non-alcoholic beverages prices increased at a quicker pace.
Inflation rose for the fourth month running, coming in at 4.0% in August (July: 3.6%). Thus, it moved to the highest point of Banxico’s target range of 2.0%–4.0%. Meanwhile, annual average inflation inched up to 3.2% in August (July: 3.1%). Similarly, core inflation edged up to 4.0% from 3.9% in the previous month.
