Mexico: Inflation rises in February
Consumer prices rose 0.83% in February over the previous month, accelerating from the 0.59% increase logged in January. Looking at the details of the release, transportation prices rose at a quicker pace in February compared to the previous month and price pressures for housing picked up pace.
Inflation came in at 7.3% in February, up from January’s 7.1%, well above the Central Bank’s 2.0%–4.0% target range. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 6.3% in February (January: 6.0%). Lastly, core inflation rose to 6.6% in February, from the previous month’s 6.2%.
