Mexico: Manufacturing and services PMIs fall in April
The Mexican Institute of Financial Executives (IMEF) Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 49.2 in April from 51.7 in March. As a result, the index remained above the 50.0 no-change threshold, but signaled a slower improvement in manufacturing sector operating conditions compared to the previous month. The headline print reflected deteriorations in output and new orders.
Meanwhile, the non-Manufacturing PMI came in at 49.7 in April, down from March’s 51.7, on softer readings for new orders, employment and output.
Taken together, the April PMI readings suggest a soft start to the second quarter, following only a meager economic expansion in Q1.
