Netherlands: Economic sentiment hits highest reading since July 2022 in May
Economic sentiment rose to 99.4 in May from April’s 98.3. May’s result marked the strongest sentiment since July 2022. That said, the index remained below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected stronger sentiment in the industrial sector and stronger consumer confidence. That said, May saw weaker sentiment in the construction and retail sectors.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations deteriorated, while the economic uncertainty index rose in May.
