Netherlands: Consumer prices fall in October
Harmonized prices fell 1.0% in annual terms in October, a larger fall than September’s 0.3% year-on-year decrease. The reading represented the second-largest reduction in prices in the euro zone. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a slower rate in October while prices for transportation rose at a slower rate. Meanwhile, housing and utilities prices declined at a more pronounced pace.
In addition, the trend pointed down, with annual average harmonized inflation coming in at 5.7% in October (September: 7.2%). Meanwhile, consumer prices fell 0.4% on an annual basis in October, which contrasted September’s 0.2% increase.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices increased 0.58% over the previous month in October, swinging from the 0.84% fall seen in September.
