Netherlands: Harmonized prices post biggest decline since July 2016 in September
Harmonized prices declined 0.3% in annual terms in September, contrasting August’s 3.4% rise. September’s reading marked the largest fall in harmonized prices since July 2016. The figure was largely due to softer growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for housing and utilities declined at a sharper rate. Moreover, prices for recreation grew at a more subdued pace.
Annual average harmonized inflation fell to 7.2% in September (August: 8.7%). Meanwhile, consumer price inflation fell to 0.2% in September, from August’s 3.0%.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices dropped 0.84% in September over the previous month, swinging from the 0.50% rise logged in August. September’s result marked the weakest reading since January.
