Netherlands: Manufacturing PMI improves in October
The Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI)—produced by Nevi and S&P Global— rose to 43.8 in October from September’s 43.6. As a result, the index remained below the 50.0 no-change threshold, signaling a continued deterioration in manufacturing sector operating conditions from the previous month.
The deterioration was driven by output and new orders falling at a quicker pace. This occurred amid weak demand as customers remained cautious. Similarly, job cuts continued, although at a slower pace than in September. Regarding prices, both input and output prices were down in October, declining slightly from the previous month due to an excess of raw material supply. Finally, companies remained optimistic about an increase in output over the next 12 months despite their overall confidence staying below the historical average.
