Panama: Consumer prices decline in annual terms in May
Consumer prices decreased 0.01% in May on a month-on-month basis, up from the 1.27% fall in April. May’s reading came on an uptick in transportation prices largely countered by a fall in education prices.
Consumer prices decreased 2.5% in annual terms in May, after falling 2.4% in April. The average change in consumer prices in the 12 months leading up to May was minus 0.7%, below April’s minus 0.5%. Inflation data has recently been published with a significant lag due to Covid-19 complicating the compilation of the index.
