Panama: Inflation comes in at highest level since December 2013 in April
Consumer prices increased 0.58% over the previous month in April, moderating from March’s 0.87% increase. April’s result marked the weakest reading since January. The result was primarily due to slower growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Moreover, prices for transport grew at a more subdued pace.
Inflation rose to 3.7% in April, above March’s 3.2%. April’s figure was the highest inflation rate since December 2013. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.7% in April (March: 2.5%).
