Panama: Inflation drops to lowest level since January in May
Inflation eased to 1.3% in May, below April’s 1.7%. May’s result represented the weakest inflation rate since January. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose at a sharper pace in May, while prices for transport and housing and utilities grew at a more subdued pace.
The trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 1.5% in May (April: 1.4%).
Finally, consumer prices fell 0.17% over the previous month in May, contrasting the 0.15% increase recorded in April. May’s result marked the weakest reading since October 2023.
