Peru: Consumer confidence at over one-year high in December
The consumer confidence indicator published by GfK jumped from 94 in November to 99 in December, marking the best result since October 2017. The index therefore almost hit the critical 100-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among Peruvian consumers; it has been under the mark since November 2017. The reading, possibly boosted by increased government approval, reflected notable improvements in both consumers’ expectations over their personal financial situation in the next 12 months and their expectations on the economy over the same time horizon. Moreover, the indicator also registered an increase in the number of respondents who think it’s a good time to buy a house or household appliances.
