Peru: Inflation inched down in January

Consumer prices in Metropolitan Lima increased 0.07% over the previous month in January, down from December’s 0.18% month-on-month rise. January’s increase was largely the result of higher prices for rental housing, fuel and electricity—due to an increase in prices of domestic drinking water—recreation, cultural and teaching services, and health care.

Meanwhile, inflation inched down to 2.1% from December’s over one-year high of 2.2%. In the first month of 2019, core consumer prices, which exclude energy and food prices, increased 0.1% from the previous month, matching December’s rise. Finally, core inflation dipped to 2.5% from December’s over one-year high of 2.6%.
