Peru: Inflation stable in December

Consumer prices in Metropolitan Lima increased 0.18% over the previous month in December, up from November’s 0.12% month-on-month rise. December’s increase was largely the result of higher prices for transport and communications, which were influenced by the seasonal effect of Christmas and New Year’s Eve; rental housing, fuel and electricity—due to an increase in prices of residential fuels—and furniture, household goods and maintenance.

Meanwhile, inflation remained at November’s over one-year high of 2.2% in December. In the last month of 2018, core consumer prices, which exclude energy and food prices, increased 0.1% from the previous month, matching November’s rise. Finally, core inflation rose to an over one-year high of 2.6% in December, from November’s 2.5%.
