Peru: Merchandise exports growth slows in December
Merchandise exports rose 26.2% on an annual basis in December, easing from November’s 43.1% increase but nonetheless marking the 16th consecutive month of rising exports. Meanwhile, merchandise imports rose 23.5% on an annual basis in December (November: +25.2% yoy), marking the mildest growth since February 2021.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance decreased slightly from the previous month, recording a USD 1.7 billion surplus in December (November 2021: USD 2.0 billion surplus; December 2020: USD 1.3 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 14.8 billion surplus in December, compared to the USD 14.4 billion surplus in November.
