Peru: Merchandise exports fall in September
Merchandise exports contracted 2.4% annually in September, on the heels of August’s 5.5% drop. Meanwhile, merchandise imports contracted 6.4% in annual terms in September (August: -13.8% yoy), marking the strongest result since February 2023.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance improved from the previous month, recording a USD 1.2 billion surplus in September (August 2023: USD 1.0 billion surplus; September 2022: USD 1.0 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 14.7 billion surplus in September, compared to the USD 14.6 billion surplus in August.
