Peru: Merchandise exports increase in January
Merchandise exports climbed 9.4% over the same month last year in January (December: +0.8% year-on-year). Meanwhile, merchandise imports climbed 6.2% on an annual basis in January (December: -7.9% yoy), marking the strongest reading since November 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 1.5 billion surplus in January (December 2024: USD 2.0 billion surplus; January 2023: USD 1.2 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed up, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 17.6 billion surplus in January, compared to the USD 17.4 billion surplus in December.
